Jr. Design Engineer
Description

SCI, a leading manufacturer of high-performance furniture for the restaurant and food service sector, is seeking a Jr. Design Engineer to support the Engineering Department at our Rockdale, IL facility.

This position is ideal for individuals looking to grow their design engineering skills while contributing to innovative product development. The Junior Design Engineer will assist in creating detailed models and drawings, support production processes, and collaborate with team members to meet project goals. Working under the guidance of senior engineers, this role provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in developing detailed 2D and 3D models using AutoCAD and Inventor in compliance with SCI standards.
  • Prepare and update engineering drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and production documentation.
  • Support the creation of installation drawings and technical documentation for customer projects.
  • Collaborate with production teams to troubleshoot and resolve design-related issues during manufacturing.
  • Ensure designs align with Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.
  • Perform basic revisions and optimizations to improve manufacturability and efficiencies.
  • Work closely with senior engineers, Estimators, and Project Managers to meet project deadlines.
  • Participate in design reviews and contribute ideas for product improvements.
  • Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment on project requirements.
  • Actively seek opportunities to learn new tools, techniques, and processes.
  • Stay updated on industry standards and best practices in design engineering.
  • Take on progressively challenging assignments to build technical expertise and problem- solving skills.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Inventor, with a strong interest in developing advanced design skills.
  • Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes and principles such as DFM and DFA
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, excellent communication and teamwork abilities, and an eagerness to learn and grow in a collaborative environment.
