The Tube Laser Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC tube laser cutting machines to produce precision-cut metal tubing and profiles according to engineering drawings and production schedules. This role ensures quality, efficiency, and safety while meeting customer specifications.

Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate CNC tube laser cutting equipment (e.g., fiber laser tube cutters).
  • Load and unload raw material (round, square, rectangular, and custom tube profiles).
  • Interpret blueprints, CAD files, work orders, and cut lists.
  • Program or edit machine parameters (cut paths, speeds, power settings) as required.
  • Perform first-article inspections and in-process quality checks using measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, tape measures).
  • Monitor machine operation to ensure cut quality, dimensional accuracy, and productivity.
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting (nozzle changes, lens cleaning, alignment checks, monitor nitrogen gas).
  • Identify and report equipment issues, material defects, or process deviations.
  • Maintain accurate production records and follow job travelers.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures, including laser safety and PPE requirements.
  • Collaborate with engineering, quality, and fabrication teams to improve processes.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training preferred.
  • 1–3+ years of tube laser or CNC laser operation experience preferred.
  • Experience with quality systems (ISO) and lean manufacturing principles preferred.
  • Experience with fiber lasers and automated material handling systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of metals (steel, stainless steel, aluminum) preferred.
  • Forklift or overhead crane certification preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and GD&T basics.
  • Familiarity with CNC controls, nesting software, or CAD/CAM systems.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Basic math skills and ability to perform measurements accurately.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
  • Ability to lift materials and stand for extended periods.
  • Manufacturing shop environment with exposure to noise, fumes, and moving equipment.
  • Use of PPE required (safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection).
  • May involve shift work, overtime, or weekend hours based on production needs.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. with assistance.
  • Involves prolonged standing, bending, and repetitive motions.
  • Requires visual acuity for inspecting parts and reading instruments.
